On Tuesday January 13, 2009, Caledon Public Library announced the winners of the Elizabeth Scavetta Memorial Short Story Contest for young adults. The winners were: Mark Sant first place, Julie Truong second place and Kiara Elliott in third place. The judges this year were author John Steckley and author Amanda Hartley. Seventeen stories in all were entered with both judges enjoying all of the stories and saying that they had a very difficult time choosing. They encourage the young authors to continue to write and foster their talent.
Heather Scavetta, mother of Elizabeth Scavetta for whom the contest is now named, gave each of the winning writers a pink rose, as a gift from Elizabeth, as well as a journal and a cheque to each placed winner to add to their prize money.
Also a reminder to our young writers to watch for the Caledon Public Library’s Young Adult Poetry Contest and Short Story Contest for kids 6-12 coming in March.
